Feature: Scion FR-S gets Vortech Supercharged @ ModAuto

One of the biggest gripes about the Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ (and now Toyota 86) is that the car is a bit on the underpowered side. The FA20 has the potential for greatness… the problem is it needs forced induction to be good. Problem is, the majority of systems available aren’t CARB legal, so you’re effed when it comes time for Smog…. that is, unless you do what Sammy H did, and go for power with the Vortech Supercharger for Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86.

Good for a not-insubstantial 294hp / 210tq, this supercharger setup yields 9 PSI at the factory redline and manages full CARB Certification, for smog legality. That means when it comes time for smog, you can tell the smog ref to bugger off.

With a supercharger, the rest of the factory exhaust system remains in place, so normal FR-S/BRZ exhaust parts still work just fine. Giving Sammy’s FR-S the tone it needed, the OEM FR-S exhaust system was swapped out in favor of an Invidia N1 Exhaust for FR-S/BRZ paired with a Borla Midpipe for an angry boxer growl.
The car’s badging has been converted to AU-market “Toyota GT86” badging, though the irony is USA cars are now Toyota 86es without the “GT” part. The LED tail lights are a different style than what we offer here but they certainly have a distinct look all his own.
The massive GT wing gives the car a more aggressive character and the car’s fitment is certainly on that end of the spectrum too – more than filling out the oem fenderwells, this car’s begging for some overfenders.

A set of custom sideskirts dresses up the car’s side profile, and ties the wing together with the equally oversized front lip. If anyone on the street’s actually making downforce, it’s Sammy.

The Vortech Supercharger setup we offer here is an intercooled system, and the VORTECH stencil on the intercooler lets everyone know just what’s up under the hood.
