The Hyundai Genesis is more or less the underdog of the aftermarket car enthusiast world as it is one of the newer cars of the 21st century without a historical lineage or racing heritage. Hyundai has really stepped their game up over the last 8 years and is doing surprisingly, competitively well as far as power gains and handling opportunities. It’s already been a project car for numerous track days and, probably most favored of all motorsports, used quite a bit for amateur and professional drift events.
The Hyundai Genesis is definitely not a car to dismiss as it holds plenty of potential underneath the hood. It’s okay if you’re not too familiar with the Genesis just yet, because below our very own Jaybee Valledor and Nick Gregson has put together a very extensive and detailed list of the best modifications you can have installed on your car to get the most out of the Korean front-runner sports car. With two versions currently out in the market, the 2.0L Turbo and the 3.8L V6, you really can’t go wrong with which direction of awesome you want to go with.
#1 WHEELS
There are, without a doubt, plenty of options out there for wheels. It’s difficult to really make a decision on which wheels to put on your Genesis, especially if you’re unsure about how the style of a particular wheel will look on a car.
We’ve all been there; headaches for days because we cant seem to find good pictures of the wheels we like on the car we love or. Imagination can really only take us so far. With you brain pre-occupied with other things, below we’ve given a little aid to your confusion!
See what I mean? A simple design is all the Genesis needs to really break necks and drop jaws. And it seems that from any angle, these M550 wheels look amazing. Compliment them with fresh rubber like the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and your ride will surely be a different animal indeed.
Avant Garde M368
If you want a wheel that looks like nothing else, scope out the split 6-spoke design of the Avant Garde M368.

Some of you might be thinking, “Damn those wheels are sexy” where as probably another handful of you diligent readers are saying to yourself “nahhh not for me”. Below are a completely different style of wheel known to be a variant of the classic “mesh” design.
Available in regular, deep, or super deep concave, the Forgestar F14 wheels will just about make you look back at your own car after walking away from it maybe..5 times. With the custom offers from Forgestar, getting that right look to impress the crowd and really set yourself apart from other builds is simple.
Now to move forward with the next wheel I believe is one of the best looking wheels on the Genesis, Avant Garde sure knows how to bring out the raw beauty of a car. Without getting too crazy but still keeping it fresh in the Genesis community, the Avant Garde M510 Wheels have a unique style that only Avant Garde can produce.
Just look at those wheels. Gorgeous. It’s as if those wheels were made specifically to compliment the smooth lines of the Hyundai Genesis. Something about the open bespoke design of the M510 makes the Genesis pop in person and in photos. These wheels are guaranteed to bring a mess of people around your car just to admire the simplicity and raw attraction of the Genesis.
VMR V705 Gunmetal 19×8.5 / 19×9.5
Another awesome wheel to consider for your Hyundai Genesis are the VMR V705 Wheels because these wheels are the most affordable and have the most reliable fitment among the four different wheels mentioned within this blog. Sure, you could always go wider and lot more aggressive with the wheel fitment, nobody is opposed to that.

There are still, nonetheless, car enthusiasts who are more interested in a good looking, trusted wheel size that will give absolutely zero problems such as fender rubbing and having to roll/pull said fenders. The 19×8.5 et35 and 19×9.5 et22 staggered wheels set available from VMR are ideal for when you want to get a track day going, go sliding around a corner, or for when you just don’t like the way the stock wheels look on your car (which, at this point, is highly likely).

#2 Get Low and Improve Handling with Upgraded Suspension
Genesis Coupe 3.8 on PS MAX Coilovers
One of the best things you can do to improve your Genesis Coupe is lower your suspension. Dropping the car eliminates unsightly wheelgap and transforms your GenCoupe into the sexy beast you know it’s supposed to be.

Specs: 19×9.5 ET9 / 19×10.5 ET12 – Federal 225/35-19 / 245/35-19
The cool thing is that you can dial in exactly the ride height you need whether you’re trying to get the fastest track time at Laguna Seca or look as static and perfectly fitted as possible for the next car show. Adjusting coilovers does require a little patience to get the perfect, even height at all four corners, but if you’re mechanically inclined and enjoy wrenching and getting your hands dirty, then coilovers are the right fit for you.
A high-quality, good set of coilovers will cost you somewhere between $800-$1500 but if you’re just not ready to drop that kind of cash on a set, there are other legitimate options for you. A lot of people just don’t want to lower the car very much or deal with the probable inconvenience of the constant removal of the wheels to get access to the spinning perches that adjust the ride height. Some people just want a mild drop and have it stay that way forever and never ever touch them again, which is perfectly fine! The second option would be to rock some Eibach Pro Kit Lowering Springs for the Hyundai Genesis 2.0T which are nice because they lower the car just about 1.2-1.3 inches all-around (every car is different, but the lowering height is relatively similar on any year Genesis) and would still maintain roughly the same ride comfort when you drive around. With the lowering springs, you can not only enjoy better handling around corners, but enjoy a better wheel gap-less look! Plenty of car enthusiasts go for the lowering springs option because it’s relatively inexpensive while still improving suspension characteristics for any environment. The addition of aftermarket lowering springs might not look like much, but underneath the fenders is where all the magic happens. It’s a considerable difference and definitely something to think about. The mild drop can for sure change the entire appearance of the car whether you rolling on stock wheels or cruising with Avant Garde wheels.
Probably now you’re thinking about what else could you do immediately that can make the fastest, most significant difference when turning hard or even drifting. The solution to this predicament would be the addition of sway bars, specifically the Eibach Anti-Roll Sway Bar Kit for the Hyundai Genesis. These bad boys will increase and/or decrease your car’s oversteer/understeer depending on which adjustment hole you attach your endlink to. Specs below:
Front:
· 29mm tubular with 2 adjustment holes.
· Hole 1 = 271 lbs/in
· Hole 2 = 307 lbs/in
· 8.6 lbs
· Urethane bushings with grease grooves
Rear:
· 22 mm tubular with 2 adjustment holes
· Hole 1 = 433 lbs/in
· Hole 2 = 504 lbs/in
· 4.8 lbs
#3 Be Heard & Seen With a Performance Exhaust.
An exhaust system comes in numerous parts but you don’t necessarily need to have every single exhaust component on your car for improved performance or a louder, more aggressive sound. With the Genesis, there is a 2.0L Turbocharged version as well as a 3.8L V6 version and each have their own prospective performance gains with their particular exhaust designs.
First Up, the Hyundai Genesis 2.0L Turbo…
With the ARK Performance GRIP Exhaust, your Genesis 2.0 Turbo will gain an approximate +8 wheel horsepower, +13 lb/ft of torque, and amazingly also maintain the exhaust sound to around 85 decibels (93 is understood to be the legal limit for exhaust sound of a vehicle.

Moving onto the Hyundai Genesis 3.8L V6…
Just like there are brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton, there are other brands to choose from when deciding which cat-back exhaust system you need for your Genesis. Unlike the turbocharged version, however, the 3.8L V6 is a Naturally Aspirated engine (NA) that doesn’t pull its horsepower and torque from its forced induction (FI) 2.0L turbo counterpart. As far as power gains go, there aren’t a variety of options for the NA as there is for FI (or any turbocharged/supercharged car for that matter). For the 3.8L V6, it really comes down to the extent to which you modify the exhaust system. Let’s get into it, shall we?
Probably the first thing to think about is the cat-back exhaust system. Cat-back refers to the exhaust piping that go behind the catalytic converters and is the last few pieces of the entire system that the exhaust flow exits from. The Injen Cat-Back Exhaust for the Hyundai Genesis 3.8L V6 is a great choice as it will yield a gain of +8hp and +9lb/ft of torque. With its 4″ Quad Burnt Titanium tips, the exhaust cut-out on the stock Genesis rear bumper is certainly filled. It is agreed upon many Hyundai Genesis car enthusiasts that the Injen Exhaust is by far one of the best sounding exhausts they’ve ever heard on the 3.8L V6. This is the optimal choice of cat-back exhaust if you’re looking for an exhaust that has little-to-no noise at idle and if you want a quieter, more refined exhaust tone. Once you climb up the RPM range though, Injen’s unique sound comes roaring out and will definitely widen your eyes and make you smile from ear-to-ear.
Of course, there are other options out there, and luckily for us, ARK Performance has blessed us with a load of options that, when combined together, squeeze out every last bit of horsepower the Hyundai’s Lambda V6 engine can give us. Let’s start off by mentioning the ARK Performance GRIP Exhaust System for the Hyundai Genesis 3.8L V6. Where the Injen lacks in low-range exhaust sound, the ARK succeeds with its Helmholtz Resonators to help reduce the cabin drone while also sound mean and aggressive at 3000rpm.
- +8hp and +13lb/ft torque of dyno-proven power gains
- Mirror-polished, 2.5″ diameter, SUS304 stainless steel piping
- Maximum exhaust flow with reduced back pressure
- Cross-flow Y-Pipe for maximum exhaust flow and engine response
- 88mm diameter quad exhaust tips
- Optional Downpipe available for better exhaust flow and power
- Helmholtz resonators give an aggressive exhaust tone without cabin drone
- 85db exhaust volume at 3000RPM
- Polished, Gloss Black, and Techno exhaust tips available
- All hardware and instructions included for easy installation
So now that you’ve gotten your cat-back exhaust, whichever one that may be, it’s time to further improve the exhaust system.
You might be thinking “Wow my car is dramatically faster and it sounds freakin’ AWESOME (and loud). What more can I do to increase the power for my V6 Genesis?”. If you are wondering what else you could possibly do, I have an answer. After installing a cat-back exhaust, the last bit of modification you could do to get the most out of bolt-on performance would be the inclusion of the ARK Performance R-Spec Headers for the Hyundai Genesis 3.8L V6. These are the first set of pipes that the exhaust gases touch and immediately improves the flow. With the addition of the ARK R-Spec Headers for Hyundai Genesis, you will see power gains up to 15hp and 9lb/ft torque. The ARK R-Spec Headers are made with T304 stainless steel, 2″ piping for optimum power in the mid-range to redline. The de-burred and ported header inlets and outlets provide a better, smoother exhaust flow for more power.
Trust me, the massive combination of Headers + Downpipes + Cat-Back Exhaust is such a significant upgrade that your 3.8L V6 Hyundau Genesis will be considered a different beast entirely. In conjunction, these three bolt-upgrades together will yield an approximate, accumulative total of just about +33 horsepower and +31 lb/ft of torque. Sound-wise, your car will be loud; like, “racecar” loud. But at the end of the day, these modifications are created to bring out the best performance Hyundai’s Lambda V6 engine can produce and that is honestly what a true car enthusiast could ever wish for. On one final note, below are some videos of these three upgrades working together…
#4 Turn Up the Boost with Performance Bolt-Ons
New to the market is the Turbo Transformer Performance Module for Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T, a simple piggy-back type device for just $199 that safely increases boost pressure slightly for a safe gain of approximately 25whp and 25wtq! While nowhere near as complex as a OBD II based tuner, this piggy-back device installs and can be removed literally in under a minute and offers a nice gain for the price.
After ECU tuning, the next most important bolt on for performance is the intercooler, by increasing it in size (thereby increasing its volume), is able to stay cool for a longer period of time, reducing detonation (which also helps preserve your engine), lower air charge temps mean the car’s engine makes the most power possible rather than bogging down in the heat.
“STREET” FMIC Kit
“RACE” FMIC Kit
Injen Intercooler Chargepipes for Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T will grant another +9whp and +11wtq for even greater power, and because they’re not plastic, you’ve eliminated the boost leaks in the OEM system for much sharper throttle response and faster spool.
