Dinan is one of the biggest names in the BMW aftermarket and they recently finished developing their new valved axle-back exhausts for the BMW F97 X3M & F98 X4M—compatible with Competition versions as well. From the words of Dinan, “The “baby M’s” of the ’X’ family just got a bit more big brother like.” BMW showcases its impressive engineering on the X3M/X4M modern performance SUVs. However, they fall short for some owners and leave them wanting more.
Dinan built a valved axle-back exhaust system to make the experience more exciting and improve performance for X3M and X4M owners. BMW uses 70mm pipes for the stock exhaust while Dinan uses a much larger 76mm diameter. The larger diameter provides an aggressive throaty tone which also increases the power by 8 horsepower and 6 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a lighter construction that allows you to save five pounds compared to the factory versions.
The exhaust system design isn’t tacky either, though most people will only see the four 4.5” tailpipes at the back available in either coated black or a polished finish. The exhaust nearly has a perfectly symmetrical design and is made of 100% 304 brushed stainless steel. The tips utilize a new design that benefits from two critical things. It has the ability to have a longer tip sleeve length without sacrificing real estate for a clamp neck thus allowing larger tips even when there is limited straight pipe to clamp on to. Secondly, the interior clamp neck means that the clamp itself is almost completely hidden from view for an unblemished install. As usual, the exhaust works with the car’s computer, allowing you to control the valves in the final silencers just like you would on a stock model.
