Spotlight: Justin’s CF Widebody Mitsubishi Evo 9 (IX) on Forgestar F14 Wheels

Justin B has been a long time customer of ModBargains – watching us grow from our early days as a small facility into the badass shop we have today, and recently we had the opportunity to snap some photos of his badass widened Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX when he stopped by for our Mod Nights meet to unveil the #STAYCRUSHING FR-S after having all the carbon-fiber bodywork completed. As with nearly any Evo IX, the car is by no means remotely near stock anymore – the 4G four banger under the hood has been upgraded significantly past the point of “just bolt ons”, sure the ETS Intercooler is obvious, as is the Apex’i Full 3in Exhaust mated to a pissed off Garrett GTX 3071R Turbocharger. Beyond the turbo, the valvetrain’s been upgraded with Kelford 272 Cams and Crower Dual Valve Springs to match, and keeping all that fed with fuel is a Walbro 400 Fuel Pump and RC 1200 Injectors. Running a custom RRE dual map for both E85 (surprisingly available here in SoCal – and an amazing asset to anyone modding a TURBO car) and for crappy California 91 Octane, the car belts out a ridiculous 496 horsepower across all four wheels – that’s WHEEL horsepower, not crank – which is effing impressive for an AWD car, as All-Wheel-Drive cars have much, much more “drivetrain loss” than RWD or FWD cars.

The massive ETS intercooler fills out the front bumper’s openings completely, giving the car even more street cred.

Lined up amongst other awesome modified cars, Justin’s Evo is perfectly at home. The Carbon Fiber fenders do a great job of blending in with the car’s natural carbon gray paint job, making it both stealthy and aggressive all at once.

The ride is by no means stock either, sporting TEIN Flex Coilovers on all four corners with Cusco rear struts, allowing the sharpest Evo of them all to be even more scalpel-like in the twisty bits.

The factory brakes, which already stop hard enough to induce whiplash, have been upgraded further with a set of R1 Concepts Slotted Rotors. Slotted rotors both help provide a way for hot brake exhaust gases to escape as well as acting as a scrubber to keep wiping debris away as you apply the brake.
