When it comes to wheels there is such an abundance of choice that the finished product on the car could be pretty hit or miss if you don’t know what you’re doing. Aside from the choice of style, there’s wheel sizing, wheel offset, tire sizing, and suspension setup to consider when putting together your new wheel setup, making it a daunting process without proper guidance. In this case, even as an employee, I was thoroughly impressed by Mod Expert Sean’s recommendations for wheel fitment and tire sizing when I decided to pull the trigger on a set of Forgestar CF5V’s in Super Deep Concave for my e92 M3, a combination I’d never seen before as the Super Deep Concave fitment is a relatively new offering. Thankfully the fitment came out PERFECT as you’ll see throughout this post. The sizing is just about as aggressive as you can run on an E92 M3 before needing to add camber which I wanted to avoid:

19×10” et20 F; 19×11” et25 R / 275/30/19 F; 305/30/19 R.

NO MODIFICATION OF ANY KIND WAS REQUIRED TO RUN THIS SETUP & DOES NOT RUB WHATSOEVER

Since June of 2015 I’d been running a set of Apex Arc-8 wheels in 19×9.5” et22 Front & 19×10” et 25 Rear with Hankook Ventus V12 EVO’s in 245/35/19F; 275/30/19R, my first set of aftermarket wheels for my M3. I’ve always wanted my car to retain the sophisticated, mature character it rolled out of the factory with, so a wheel that resembles an original BMW M wheel seemed like a great choice at the time. You can see what they look like in the picture below.

Before my new Forgestars I had always run fairly conservative fitments on my cars, however after seeing what a difference proper sizing and offsets can make to the overall appearance of the car you could definitely say I “get it”. The car looks so much more muscular now, and has a presence that it was lacking before. For my Forgestar CF5Vs, I knew I wanted to be a bit more aggressive without losing that sophisticated look and daily drivability. One of the great things about Forgestar wheels is they are completely custom made; everything can be tailored to exactly your desires. Just look at how perfect the fitment is!

The Brushed Silver finish I chose really pops in the sun light but is still subtle compared to a full color finish such as gloss red which would completely change the theme of the car.

As I was watching the wheels get put on the car for the first time I couldn’t help but worry that they wouldn’t fit as I didn’t have any experience with running such aggressive wheel and tire sizing. Mod Expert Sean assured me that they would fit, going off of his personal experiences with wheels on his own E92 M3. As you can see from the pictures, he was absolutely right, perfectly right.

Something many people don’t realize when they’re purchasing tires is that tires from different manufacturers that are the “same size” are often slightly different dimensions. For example, Hankook Ventus V12 EVO’s run slightly narrower than the equivalent Michelin Pilot Super Sport, allowing a small amount of extra clearance between the tire and the fender. After having the wheels on the car for a week I can honestly say I’ve yet to hear any rubbing from the front or back wheel wells. With the tiny amount of gap between the tire and fender I’m convinced this setup would rub all day long had it not been for using the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO.

The amount of grip from the new substantially wider tires (30 millimeters wider on all 4 corners) is unlike anything I’ve previously experienced in an E92 M3. The car now rotates beautifully, understeer is almost completely eliminated, and hard 1st gear launches even with traction control off are completely wheelspin free, even at 30whp over stock. My father even described the new handling characteristics as “go-kart-like”, high praise for a 3600lb coupe. Aggressive acceleration out of corners results in a slight wiggle of the rear end and its back to full speed ahead. With all of that extra rubber the car feels more planted than ever on the road.

As you can see, going from the Apex Arc-8 to the Forgestar CF5V Super Deep Concave took the car from OEM+ to wallpaper worthy. With the experience I’ve had with my Forgestars I can confidently recommend this setup to anyone who wants to extract the most out of their M3. If you were like me, thinking a 2xx section rear tire just wasn’t big enough, this is the way to go bigger. To get your set of Forgestar CF5V Super Deep Concave on E9x M3 today, call us at 714-582-3330 (x8009 for Sean) or go online at ModBargains.com.
