The factory exhaust system of the Mark 7 VW Golf GTI is a bit hard to notice – with two rather plain round tips and an exhaust quiet enough not to wake a baby, it leaves a lot to be desired in the character of a ‘hot hatch’.
With its interior still sporting classic-themed plaid details, it’s only appropriate to give the car a sporty exhaust note to recapture the frantic fun of the GTIs of old.
So to spice things up, we’re going to replace the boring and sterile sounding stock VW Golf Mk7 exhaust with something more interesting. Keeping it German – because you know, DAS AUTO, we’re going to be fitting a quad tip system from Remus Exhaust.
The factory exhaust is both restrictive and heavy, swapping it out will not only enhance the car’s exhaust note, but also free up a bit of extra horsepower and torque.
Check out this side by side comparison of the stock exhaust system with the Remus Exhaust. The Remus Quad Exhaust for VW Golf GTI Mk7 is lighter and less restrictive than factory, good for a 5hp / 17tq gain in full catback form, but even the axleback still offers a nice little horsepower bump.
Here’s an installed view of this Remus Quad Exhaust for Mk VII VW GTI (shown installed on another Mk 7 because we missed the undercarriage of this one)- this gives you an idea of the fitment and how it fits into your GTI’s exhaust system.
Fitted with quad 84mm “Street Race” carbon fiber tips, the Remus Quad Exhaust for the GTI comes complete with a diffuser to accommodate the new setup, and this GTI owner has opted for the Carbon look version to give the car a bit more aggressive flair.
Let’s take a closer look.
Remus’ trademark “Street Race” tips look great on damn near anything you put them on. From this angle we can see the Carbon Fiber cutout on each tip and how it matches the look of the diffuser.
Here’s a closeup of the Street Race Tips. From behind, the car’s profile has a lot more Euro-tuner flavor to it, and a lot more authority.
With the GTI revving happily with the Remus Exhaust installed, this GTI is looks and sounds like it should’ve come factory.
