When you fit a car with a set of nice wheels, it often doesn’t look quite right unless you lower the car to eliminate the wheelgap. This E82 BMW 135i came in a few weeks back to take care of exactly that here at ModAuto.
This E82 135i already had been upgraded with a set of VMR Wheels, but lacked the drop it needed to look its best. The 1-series was intended to be an affordable performance car, and it’s only fitting it’d need performance suspension- like a set of coilovers. Traditionally, coilovers have been on the expensive end of the spectrum at well over $1000, but that’s not the case anymore, thanks to Solo-Werks.
Setting you back just $599 USD as of press time, Solo-Werks S1 Coilovers for BMW E82 135i offer a huge value for the money. These quality coilovers offer the ride height adjustment you want to get exactly the look you want to achieve paired with high performance fixed damping shocks that have been tuned specifically to the E82 platform.
Founded by two former KW engineers, Solo-Werks Coilovers were their way of fighting the corporate bureaucracy by offering an affordable coilover option at a price that grassroots enthusiasts can afford.
By skimping on things like marketing, boxes and flashy inserts, Solo-Werks offers quality no-frills coilovers with everything that you need and nothing you don’t. Check out the galvanized front coilover as it appears installed in the photo above.
In the rear, the adjustable rear springs and performance shocks make for a much better behaved rear end and superior traction.
With everything installed, we were ready to take it outside to scope out the new look.

Despite the rain, the 135i looked fantastic lowered on the VMR V710s. The drop gives it the perfect amount of aggression to make the 135i a car you’d notice on the street.

The Solo-Werks Coilovers eliminate the wheelgap but have been set to leave enough clearance so that it doesn’t rub- ideal for a daily driven car like this 1er.

With the 1-series lowered and on a set of nice wheels, the 135i looks exactly the way it should have rolled out of the factory. When your car can look this good just by lowering it and fitting a set of wheels, why would you stay stock another day?
