When Joseph M brought in his Nitrous Blue Ford Focus RS to our shop it was pretty much completely stock. That is not to say it wasn’t a striking car in its factory form, but as with any production car it becomes less notable as people see them more often. If you have read our previous articles you know we are huge proponents of what you might call “the essentials” of exterior modding. The essentials we speak of are of course aftermarket wheels and some form of lowered suspension. The overall effect of these two simple items have on the look of a car is immense and really make the difference between having your car gawked at and it passing by almost completely unnoticed.

The most apparent mod upon viewing the car is the stunning Fifteen52 Tarmac wheels in Rally White. These wheels look absolutely fantastic on the Joseph’s car thanks to the fitment and classic styling. You may recognize the design if you are a fan of Ken Block’s Gymkhana videos on YouTube. These wheels were featured on Block’s Ford Fiesta rally car in episode 4 and 5 of the series. The wheels were then wrapped in the Focus RS’s factory Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires so Joseph retains the same level of road holding and control that he’s accustomed to. The wheels are a 19×8.5 ET40 square setup (same size and offset all around) with 235/35R19 tires.

To get the car looking a little more sleek and to make the wheels fit a little better Joseph got a set of Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs which lower the front suspension by 0.7″ and the rear by 1.1″. These are great because not only do they make the car look better, the lower stance and higher spring rates improve the handling characteristics of the Focus RS. With the lower stance the Tarmac wheels really pop and give the car that classic Focus RS look that draws attention everywhere.

With the car looking so great with the wheels and suspension it only makes sense to have a way for it to draw a bit more attention to itself. For that Joseph went with a Remus Cat-Back Valved Sport Exhaust to give the Focus RS a throaty exhaust tone. The nice thing about the Remus Valved system is that it utilizes the factory valve actuator so you get a nice aggressive tone under hard acceleration and then it quiets down when you’re just cruising around.

As you can see, you don’t need to invest thousands into exterior parts for your car to look great. Sometimes all it takes is a nice simple drop and some stylish wheels. With the addition of an exhaust you car becomes fully equipped to turn heads and elicit admiration from those around you. Joseph’s car turned out great with the help of his Mod Expert Elliott who gave him suggestions and advice on what parts would work well on the RS.
