A few weekends back we had a pair of brand new Porsche 991 Carrera S in at the ModAuto install facility to see Mod Expert Blake. A  Porsche that doesn’t look its best is kind of like the Mona Lisa with a black eye – and unfortunately every Porsche out of Stuttgart lately looks like a damn 4×4. You can’t just leave it that way. That’s why these 911s had come in, to eliminate the disgusting and visually offensive wheelgap that ruins the aesthetics of every stock Porsche. The Mod Experts like Blake know just how to remedy the problem – and how to do it without ruining the PASM.

The first order of business was a new set of wheels for Porsche 991.

As we’ve said before and we will certainly say again, the best first mod for any car is a set of wheels – and they’re certainly off to the right start with a set of HRE FF01 Wheels for Porsche in custom IPA finish.

This set of 911’s is a pair, and as such we’re going with two matching set of the FF01s from HRE Performance Wheels.

The Mod Auto Techs get to work on each side of the facility on the other mod we’re installing today – what else goes with a set of fresh wheels but a drop? To give the Porsche 991 Suspension the drop it needed, we’ll be installing a set of Vogtland Sport Springs for Porsche 991 Carrera to eliminate the wheelgap. Vogtland springs are different than other lowering springs in that they’re specifically engineered to retain comfort as much as is possible while still lowering the car and enhancing its handling performance. It’s a balance that’s difficult to achieve.

Vogtland Lowering Springs for Porsche 991 Carrera

We installed a set of Vogtland Lowering Springs for Porsche 991 Carrera, which drops the 991 by 1.2in both front and rear. Importantly, these springs are also fully PASM compatible, meaning the system is unaffected by the drop.

With the first of the two on the ground, we can already see the huge difference the drop and the wheels made on the car.

The drop in ride height brings down the car to where it should have sat stock – just enough wheelgap to clear.

Out in the light, even on a cloudy overcast day like it was, the wheels and drop look incredible on the Porsche 991.

After we snapped a few photos, the 2nd Porsche was done.

The IPA finish on the FF01s looks especially sharp contrasted against the darker finish of the 2nd Carrera.

The drop in ride height is perfect for the car. Not too aggressive so that it’s “slammed”, but tasteful and practical low.

With identical wheels and an identical drop, these two Porsches are like P-Cars in a pod. (We know, bad pun)
