The E39 BMW M5 is an iconic classic, and many still consider it to be the purest incarnation of the M5. However, with the newest of them being 2003 models like this one, they’re starting to age, and as such, things like the suspension wear out and need to be replaced, and that little bit of excess wheelgap does take a bit away from the car’s appearance. That’s why Jason O brought in his beautifully kept E39 BMW M5 to see Mod Expert and vintage BMW enthusiast Kevin M here at ModBargains.
Since you have to dismantle the suspension anyways and your OEM shock absorbers are spent at 50,000 miles, replacing your suspension offers you the opportunity to lower your car while you’re at it. There’s several ways to do this, either a matched set of Vogtland lowering springs and shock absorbers for BMW E39 for example or a set of BC Racing Coilovers for BMW E39 M5 if you’d like to adjust how low you go. When you factor in the cost of replacing your worn out stock E39 Suspension components, a set of coilovers becomes a surprisingly affordable option.

To refresh the E39’s aging suspension and sharpen its look by giving it a slight drop, we installed a set of BC Racing Coilovers for BMW E39 M5. Already an extremely well equipped example of the E39 chassis, eliminating the excess wheelgap was really all the car needed.

With the afternoon sun hitting it, this M5 looked better than it did fresh off the lot in 2003.

The front end has been given a little bit a slight tweak with the addition of a set of Matte Black Kidney Grilles for BMW E39 to eliminate the overly flashy chrome – the matte black is the perfect compliment to the car’s deep, glossy paint.
