As we’ve said before, the S197 Ford Mustang GT is a much better handling car than the SN95 cars that preceded it, but with that said, the factory ride height genuinely makes the car look like a 4×4 – which sucks because it’s a Mustang, it’s supposed to be sporty and low-slung.
Even with a nice set of wheels, there’s so much wheelgap that it really takes away from the look of the car. That’s why this Mustang came in to see Mod Expert Sean to lower the S197 Mustang Suspension at ModAuto with a set of coilovers from BC Racing.
We installed a set of 30-way adjustable BC Racing BR-Series Coilovers for S197 Ford Mustang to replace the factory springs and shocks to accomplish the drop we were after.

Our expert techs at ModAuto install coilovers so often, they could almost do it blind folded. Our guys completed the installation on the BC Coilovers before we could get many photos of the car on the lift, but even in this quick shot above, we could already tell how much better the car looked dropped.
Check out this striking before and after comparison between how the car looked when it came in and how it looks after lowering it.

The factory exhaust is still in place, however the midstream resonators have been deleted to give the car the aggressive rumble you expect of a Mustang. The tail panel has an extremely clean look with a large GT emblem dead center, a-la-S550 GT badge placement.

In profile, the difference the drop makes is striking, and the lower ride height makes the car appear more lithe and agile, not to mention the lower center of gravity.

Up front, we’ve set the BC Coilovers with just enough fender gap for clearance for a daily driven car.

The Performance Style Front Upper Grille for S197 Mustang GT also adds a nice touch to the front end, and gives the car a lot more visual interest than the factory front grille.

From every angle, the Mustang just looks better with a drop.
