With the B7 Audi A4 and S4 now getting a bit older, the B7 platform is becoming a bit more popular as a mod-worthy platform. The B7 was the first generation A4 to carry the 2.0 TFSI motor, and that means there are a good number of performance options available too.

In the next few paragraphs, we’re going to go over the best mods for the Audi B7 A4.

VMR V710 Matte Black Wheels w/H&R Lowering Springs on B7 Audi A4

Where to start? Why not begin with the easiest mod – a set of wheels for B7 Audi A4.

#1. Wheels

There are quite a few great wheel options out there for the B7 platform – HRE Flow Form FF01 Wheels for Audi are a great looking option that’s fresh to the market, and are some of the finest quality wheels on the market anywhere. HRE Performance Wheels hasn’t earned their reputation with hype, after all.

Another great flow-form option are Forgestar F14 Wheels for Audi, which are custom-made to order. Each custom made set of Forgestar Wheels is machined to your exact fitment and offset, and are available in three levels of concavity to suit the concave trends of today’s wheel scene.

A newcomer to the flow form scene comes from VMR WheelsVMR V810 flow-forge wheels for Audi– seen here in Hyper Silver – looks great on any Audi saloon or Avant.

Audi B7 RS4 VMR V718 19x95et33-1

A few favorites of our experts are offered by VMR Wheels. These VMR V718 Wheels for Audi B7 A4 / S4 look great with the bodylines of the B7 chassis. For a easy, no hassle fitment without rubbing at all, a fitment of 19×8.5 ET35 (with 245/35-19 tires)
Audi B7 RS4 VMR V718 19x95et33-2 Our Audi experts also love VMR V708 wheels for Audi A4 – one look and you can see why.

Our Audi experts also love VMR V708 wheels for Audi A4. The VMR V708 looks almost OEM because they’re a bit like the OEM RS4 wheels, but make the car look so much sportier at a great price.
If you’re into the “Stance” look, Avant Garde Wheels offers a great selection.

Avant Garde Wheels also offers a great selection. A set of Avant Garde M220 wheels, spec’d at 18×9 ET38 and paired with 205/40/18 tires is a great combination if you want to pull off the “stance” look – but it’s important to remember, aggressive “stance” looks take a lot of compromise.

Avant Garde M590 wheels also  look fantastic and can be had in many of the most common fitments – this Gloss Black set on this A4 Avant looks particularly fantastic.

Now let’s move onto the next mod.

2. Suspension Is Everything

Audi_B7_A4_HR_Springs_VMR_V710_Ryan_Hashemi_Bio_pics-10
From the factory the suspension of the B7 Audi A4 is set up to understeer like a pig, because the average person can’t drive their way out of a wet paper bag, and can’t be trusted with proper suspension – or that’s what the engineers seem to think. Fixing that is easier than you think – upgraded suspension will handle and perform better, not to mention getting rid of that unsightly wheel gap will make a huge improvement in the appearance of your A4.
Springs
Audi-a4-b7-hr-springs-sways-img001A set of H&R Springs for B7 Audi A4 is a great way to get the lowering you’re looking for, H&R Springs have earned an outstanding reputation amongst enthusiasts after years of being in the suspension game, and these are a good “compromise” spring, offering sportier handling and a conservative drop in ride height. If you’re looking for the absolute lowest springs for the A4, look no further than Neuspeed Race Springs for B7 Audi A4.
Audi-B7-A4-Vogtland-Springs-img002
If you want to lower your A4 and don’t want to ruin the ride of the car, check out Vogtland Springs for B7 Audi A4 – these springs offer a more conservative drop and are specifically engineered to preserve ride quality.audi-b7-s4-avant-on-vogtland-springs-001Vogtland also offers sport springs applications for Avant models.
However, if you want to have precise control over exactly how low your car sits or how much wheelgap from tire to fender – then you want either Coilovers or Air Suspension. Most guys out there are going to opt for coilovers, as Airbags are significantly more expensive, leaving them reserved for the most dedicated fitment builds.
Coilovers

Coilovers, or “coil-over-shocks” replace the spring and shock absorber completely, moving the spring directly onto the exterior of the shock body. The spring mounts are threaded, so the ride height can be adjusted accordingly. A lot of people are mistakenly under the impression that coilovers are expensive. While that might’ve been true once, that’s not the case anymore.Audi-B7-A4-Solowerks-Coilovers-IMG004 This B7 Audi A4 is sitting on a set of Solo-Werks Coilovers for B7 Audi A4, which will set you back just a bit over five benjamins for a complete set of four coilovers. Since the coilovers replace both the shock and the spring, by default, there’s more parts to replace the function of – which means that on its face, a coilover “appears” to be more expensive than just springs, if you factor in that a set of lowering springs will wear out the shocks much much faster, you’ll want to budget for a set of shock absorbers to go with the lowering springs.Audi-B7-A4-Solowerks-Coilovers-IMG005Solo-Werks Coilovers for B7 Audi A4/S4 are a fixed damping coilover, meaning you don’t have adjustments for the shock, but each set of Solo-Werks coilovers is assembled with shocks that have been spec’d out specifically for that platform – and from what our experts and customers who’ve bought them tell us, the quality is damn good as well. Like seriously impressively good.

Like their springs, a set of Vogtland Coilovers for B7 Audi A4/S4 is designed to preserve your ride quality as much as possible while also enhancing the handling performance of your Audi as well as the lowered look you want. Vogtlands tend to be on the more conservative side, but this is simply a matter of personal preference. Only marginally more expensive than the Solo-Werks option, a set of Vogtland Coilovers is also very affordable.

While designed with comfort in mind, Vogtland Coilovers can handle trackday use too.
ST_Suspensions_X_Coilovers_for_Audi_B7_A4_img002 Another great option are ST Suspensions XA Coilovers for B7 Audi A4, which offer the quality components you’d get in a KW coilover at a much lower price.ST_Suspensions_X_Coilovers_for_Audi_B7_A4_img003The ST Coilovers feature bright yellow springs that really stand out.

Don’t Forget The Sway Bars
Of course, if you have an S4 or an RS4, a set of KW Coilovers for B7 Audi A4/S4 are a solid standby option.
In addition to a set of coilovers or lowering springs, if you’re serious about getting rid of the understeer, a set of Sway Bars, like H&R Sway Bars for B7 Audi A4 or Hotchkis Sport Sway Bars for B7 Audi A4  will correct for the understeer-happy tendencies caused by the OEM sways, resulting in dramatically improved handling.

3. Power Up Performance with a CAI + Exhaust

Upgrading your B7 Audi A4 Exhaust will wake up the car’s performance as well as allow you to actually hear your engine. We offer a range of exhaust systems from AWE Tuning, Billy Boat, Remus Innovation and other fine manufacturers of Audi A4 Exhaust systems.

A cat back exhaust like the Billy Boat Catback Exhaust for B7 Audi A4 offers an improvement in sound and performance.

And as you can see, the exhaust also changes the look of the rear of the car quite a bit for the better.

Intake

A Cold Air Intake will also wake up the performance of your 2.0 TFSI – there are several options available – this the AEM Cold Air Intake for B7 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI, which replaces the OEM airbox and filter with a much freer flowing unit, since the OEM Audi airbox tends to be a bit restrictive as it’s designed with minimizing engine noise in mind. In addition to the extra power, response will feel sharper and you’ll be able to hear your turbo more clearly. Check out the range of B7 Audi A4 Intakes here.

Intercooler

As with any turbocharged car, your Audi 2.0 TFSI responds really well to a larger intercooler. An upgraded intercooler offers cooler charge temps, resulting in more consistent performance and the ability to run more aggressive air/fuel and timing, thereby creating much more power. Evolution Racewerks Dual Side Intercoolers for B7 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI cool the incoming air charge the same way as the S4 with an intercooler on either side of the radiator, but there’s also the Evolution Racewerks Front Mount Intercooler for B7 Audi A4 2.0 TFSI.

A great example of the single core style is the AWE Tuning Front Mount Intercooler for B7 Audi A4, which is another outstanding intercooler option.

The last performance item we want to mention…

Diverter Valve / Blow Off Valve

Since the OEM diverter valves have a tendency to fail, and fail OFTEN, a diverter valve isn’t just a great idea for the performance aspect, but also for reliability. The Forge Motorsport BOV/Diverter Valve for VW/Audi 2.0 TFSI engines is a favorite solution of our experts to solve the problem, ensuring your 2.0TFSI is holding boost like it should.

4. Stock Brakes Suck. Get Better Brakes.

Let’s be real, the stock brakes suck and don’t look great anyways. Whatever your budget, you can likely afford to beef up your brakes since they’re a wear-n-tear item you’re going to have to replace anyways.
StopTech Street Performance Brake Pads Audi A4/S4
You can upgrade your factory-style B7 Audi A4 Brakes with a set of StopTech Slotted Rotors for B7 A4 – and when paired with a set of StopTech Brake pads for B7 A4 and Stainless Braided Brake Lines for Audi A4, offers a major improvement in stopping power. Of course, if that’s not enough we also have Big Brake Kits from StopTech and Brembo. We also offer brake upgrades from R1 Concepts and other manufacturers. Check out our range of B7 A4 Brakes here.

5. Stand Out With Exterior Mods

On the B7, the non S-Line bumpers look pretty boring. A few tweaks here and there can really spice up the look of your A4 exterior.

Audi_B7_A4_HR_Springs_VMR_V710_Ryan_Hashemi_Bio_pics-15 An RS style grille for B7 A4 is a great place to start and fits the A4 just as well as the S4
Audi_B7_A4_HR_Springs_VMR_V710_Ryan_Hashemi_Bio_pics-22 One of the mods you won’t notice unless it’s pointed out are painted front reflectors – available for most European cars, these clean up the look of the car quite a bit.Audi_B7_A4_HR_Springs_VMR_V710_Ryan_Hashemi_Bio_pics-5If you want a sportier look, of course, it’s hard to go wrong with the old stand by classic of adding a spoiler, like the Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler for B7 Audi A4/S4 seen here.
A Carbon Fiber Diffuser for B7 A4/S4 is also a great way to showcase your exhaust setup or pull off a set of quad tips.
