Steve B first came to ModBargains with his turbocharged Ford Focus ST, and after seeing how well we did with his Focus, when he finally got the mod bug for his F10 BMW 535i, he knew just where to come. Ready to give the 5er a fresh set of wheels and drop the suspension, Sr Mod Expert Alan had just the setup to recommend.
Alan set Steve up with a set of Forgestar F14s in matching Matte Black, 20×9.5 up front and 20×10.5 at the rear – a larger wheel really looks awesome on the bigger 5-series. To give the car the grip to match, Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 Tires were fitted, sized at 245/35-20 and 285/30-20 respectively. It’s worth noting that not all tires fit alike, a Michelin Pilot Super Sport will have a different footprint than a Ventus V12 Evo2 even if they are the same spec, but Alan’s been around more than long enough to know what tire brand fitments work with what cars and can make the right recommendation to match.
Of course, even with a set of gorgeous wheels, if left at stock ride height, the excess wheelgap can sour a car’s appearance, so lowering the suspension is a bit of a necessity. Alan set Steve up with one of the best bang for the buck options on the market to get the 5 low, a set of BC Racing BR-Series Coilovers for F10 BMW 5-series. These 30-way adjustable coilovers are typically around $1000 USD as of press time, and replace both the springs and shocks together for a better ride than just springs alone.
The car’s clean look isn’t totally natural, there are a few mods here and there that help create the look and tie together the matte black theme.
Up front, a set of Matte Black Kidney Grilles for BMW F10 5-series cleans up front end aesthetics.
Tying together the matte black of the kidneys with the wheels are a set of Matte Black Fender Light Trim pieces, one of those little things that really helps add to the look – you’d certainly notice them if they’d been left chrome.
A subtle Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler for F10 5-series adds a little bit of flair to the tail as well.
