With the potent N55 turbo six underhood, the F22 BMW M235i offers a big six and rear wheel drive power stuffed into a compact coupe bodystyle, as is BMW tradition. It’s a wicked responsive car for modding, as we mentioned in our Best Mods for BMW M235i / F22 2-Series guide, but being a brand new model, we haven’t seen very many F22s onaftermarket 2-series wheels around SoCal – though that seems to be changing these days. This is the first F22 we’ve seen rocking VMR wheels new flow form version of their classic V710 Wheel, the V710FF. This particular M235i rang up Sr Mod Expert Alan Wei about getting their set.

The matte graphite finish looks especially good on this car, and the addition of a set of Painted Front Reflectors for BMW F22 2-Series and Gloss Black Kidney Grilles really gives the car’s front end a super clean appearance.

Check out this graphic illustrating the difference between the V710FF and the classic V710 – the same wheel is 3.4lbs lighter PER WHEEL. If we multiply that 3.4lb savings across four wheels, and factor in that a wheel behaves as if it is 4x heavier when in motion thanks to physics, we end up with an effective weight savings of 54.4lbs of ‘unsprung weight’. Unsprung weight refers to the weight of everything not supported by the suspension, outboard of the springs – that means suspension components, brakes, wheels and tires, and that 54lb reduction will make a difference you’ll feel at the limit in the corners.

It’s important to remember that great wheels are only half of the equation – lightweight wheels make absolutely no difference for you if you’re using garbage tires, so that’s why it’s important you get quality rubber. Alan paired up the V710FFs with BMW-owner favorite, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Though expensive, Pilot Super Sports are one of the most popular performance tires among enthusiasts for a good reason – they grip really, really well. (What, you didn’t think we all just bought these for the branding, did you?)

This particular M235i is an xDrive model, but that wasn’t a problem at all. Despite the unusual offsets needed for a 2-Series and the fact that we have xDrive here too, the fitment here is spot on, filling out the wheel arches exactly as much as is needed.
